Surface Energy Evaluation System is a portable computer-based instrument designed primarily for contact angle measurement and surface energy determination. It consists of rugged aluminium body, colour USB 2.0 camera with 1.3MPix resolution movable in vertical direction and 2D horizontally movable table for samples. Included software handles all operations: saving images, analysis of drop profile and of the contact angle, determination of surface energy on the basis of various calculation models. Sofware for calculation of self-cleaning performance is on request.

 

See System is available in two hardware models: with standard low-cost objective (See System Standard) and with enhanced optics (See System E). This model is provided with high-resolution objective lens, consisting of several precision glass elements. Thanks to longer focus and larger table, the model is ideal for diagnostics of larger samples.

Main features

  • Portable instrument of small size and weight connected through USB port.
  • Easy manipulation, quick measurement.
  • The sessile drop is imaged by colour camera. No special light source is required, so there is no problem with drop evaporation.
  • The system is equipped with special-purpose software, which can handle all necessary operations in order to calculate the surface free energy or self-cleaning performance.
  • Supported opertaing systems: Windows XP and Windows 7 (32 bit versions).  
  • The images can be captured periodically to record the time evolution of the drop profile (important e.g. in the case of the wettable materials).
  • The captured images are displayed in the program, which enables immediate fitting of the drop profile and calculation of the tangent of the arc made by the drop.
  • Two different drop profile analyses are supported by the program.
  • The software automatically calculates and displays the contact angle after fitting of the drop profile.
  • The calculated contact angles for each liquid can be stored in separate files including also the time of the recording of the drop.
  • According to the time data it is possible to investigate the temporal evolution of the contact angle.
  • The software enables the calculation of the surface energy on the basis of the most often used models (Owens-Wendt-Rable-Kaeble, Lifshitz-van der Waals/acid-base, Li-Neumann, Kwok-Neumann, Wu Equation of State.
  • Regression models (Owens-Wendt, Acid-base, Zisman) are included, too.
  • Complex error analysis.
  • A database of the testing liquids is distributed with the program. New records with the liquid parameters can be simply added (or modified).

Contact angle diagnostics can be used for various purposes. Two different software packages are available:
  • See System for Surface Energy Measurement - for contact angle measurement and caculation of surface free energy of solids on the basis of commonly used models as Owens-Wendt-Rable-Kaeble, Acid-Base, Zisman, Wu, Neumann, ...
  • See System for Self-Cleaning Measurement - for calculation of self-cleaning performance on the basis of contact angle measurement according to the ISO standard method proposal.
